The Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases, Head and Neck Surgery at Bern’s Inselspital is a leading center for diagnosing and treating ENT conditions. It integrates clinical care with research and education, offering comprehensive services across various subspecialties.
Clinical Services:
Audiology and Hearing Loss Treatment: The department provides advanced diagnostics and treatments for hearing impairments, including cochlear implants. Notably, it performed its 1,000th cochlear implantation, highlighting its extensive experience in this field.
Minimally Invasive Surgeries: Utilizing computer-assisted navigation and robotic technologies, surgeons perform endoscopic procedures of the nose and paranasal sinuses, reducing recovery times and enhancing patient outcomes.
Head and Neck Oncology: The department specializes in treating malignant tumors of the head and neck, employing laser surgery and reconstructive techniques to preserve function and appearance. An interdisciplinary tumor board customizes treatment plans for each patient.
Research and Education:
Collaborating with institutions like the ARTORG Center’s Hearing Research Laboratory, the department engages in research to develop and integrate new technologies for treating hearing loss. It offers teaching and supervision for medical and dental students, as well as training for graduate students and young ENT surgeons.
Leadership:
Professor Marco Caversaccio leads the department, focusing on computer-assisted surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and voice-preserving procedures for head and neck tumors.
