HEARRING symposium at 17th CI2024 Gran Canaria

GRAN CANARIA
HEARRING SYMPOSIUM

at the 17th International Conference on Cochlear Implants and Other Implantable Technologies

We are delighted to announce that there will be a HEARRING symposium with our experts present at the upcoming CI2024, the International Conference on Cochlear Implants and Other Implantable Technologies! The conference takes place on 21-24 of February in Las Palmas of Gran Canaria in Spain, while the HEARRING Symposium will happen on the 23d of February, 2024 at 3:35 p.m. WET in Hall 7.

What can you expect?

The focus of the symposium will be on adults.

We set the stage for understanding how to improve CI and EAS hearing in adults by presenting the importance of stimulating the apical region (Prof. Agrawal), and by understanding psycho-acoustic evaluation of apical electric stimulation (Prof. Van De Heyning). Furthermore, we bring to spotlight the importance of preserving the delicate structures of the inner ear (Prof. Gavilán) as it is crucial for optimal results. We then provide the evidence that this is possible and is supported by long-term clinical data (Prof. Hagen). This is achieved by relying on quality standards (Prof. Hagr), serving as a holistic guide for clinics. While scientific evidence illuminates the path forward, technology access remains a challenge and we need to emphasize the practical importance of Adult Hearing Screening (Prof. Lassaletta) and reimbursement. All of this concludes the presentation by Ellen Andries PhD on the ICF (international classification of functioning, disability and health) for adults, which will establish a common language for healthcare providers when it comes to understanding the importance of CI’s and EAS outcomes.

Winter HEARRING Round Table 2023

WINTER 2023
HEARRING ROUND TABLE

Dec 14, 2023

Diversity is the spice of life. People from all walks of life come with different languages, different speaking and writing styles, and different terminology. This can foster creativity and new modes of thinking. However, this can come at a cost: diversity in language can sometimes impede communication and understanding.

In the healthcare field, it is important to have a clear precise, and mutually understood language. Recognizing this issue, the World Health Organization developed the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework. This framework provides a core set of terminology and procedures for measuring and reporting health and disability. Much work has been done to adapt the ICF framework to hearing, and in particular to the cochlear implant field. In this HEARRING round table, we will discuss the progress, benefits, and remaining challenges in developing and adopting a set of ICF-compliant terminology and practices for adult cochlear implant users.

Join our wonderful panelists on the 14th of December 2023 and discuss another essential topic with the field of hearing implants.

Audiological outcomes of robot-assisted cochlear implant surgery

Audiological outcomes
of robot-assisted
cochlear implant surgery

Today we have a very special state-of-the-art paper to share with you! It’s titled “Audiological outcomes of robot-assisted cochlear implant surgery”. It was co-authored by our renowned experts from Antwerp Prof. Paul Van de Heyning. Prof.  Vincent Van Rompaey, Prof. Griet Mertens and Prof. Vedat Topsakal.

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the short-term and long-term audiological outcomes in patients who underwent cochlear implantation with a robot-assisted system to enable access to the cochlea, and to compare outcomes with a matched control group of patients who underwent cochlear implantation with conventional access to the cochlea.
